The soil in valley is Granite, with topographic characteristics of small rolling hills with slopes of up to 30% inclination. Single
blocks with different orientations towards the sunlight help
achieve
variations of ripeness and composition in the grapes. With partial harvests the wines achieve unique characteristics from each single vineyard.
The texture of the soil is loamy clay, with a medium depth and
abundant levels of quartz gravel on the surface. The subsoil consists
of compact clay horizons that create a moderate slow drainage. The
organic matter content is low, less than 2 percent, and the
pH is slightly acidic, at 6.0 to 6.5, with a low natural fertility.
The low fertility of the soils, along with the gentle climatic conditions
and proper viticultural management, allow the development of well
balanced vineyards with controlled vigour, low yields, and therefore
the production of ripe and fully concentrated grapes.
