The semi-arid Mediterranean coastal climate of Leyda is seen
in a moderate rainy winter, with an annual rainfall of 250mm, and
a dry summer due to the Pacific Ocean anticyclone that
prevents
rainfall during this season. Along the coast there is a strong
influence from the Pacific Ocean, which is particularly cold because
of the Humboldt Current.
The frost free growing season in the Valley complements its cool weather conditions with maximum temperatures of between 24-25°C and a daily temperature variation of 15° in the summer.
Ocean mist clears up early in the morning, allowing ample sunny
days with high levels of sunlight and a relative humidity of 60%.
As a consequence of these climatic characteristics, the ripening period occurs at a slower pace, leading to the correct development of pure fruity aromas and flavors, and a perfect balance of sugar levels and acidity in the grapes.
