RESERVA CARMENERE
Originally transplanted from Bordeaux in the 1800s, the Carmenere grape variety was planted throughout Chile by early wine growers. Rarely found in other parts of the world, Carmenere is considered a wine that is "uniquely Chilean". This Carmenere comes from a selected vineyard planted uphill in the Colchagua Valley. It is managed in order to achieve low yields, and therefore small and full concentrated grapes. The viticultural management is carried out in accordance with organic principles, without any pesticide application and based on a controlled irrigation deficit and careful canopy distribution. Harvest is done by hand late on the season, in the last days of April, in order to get a complete ripeness of flavours and tannins. The wine is aged in French and American oak barrels for 7 months. New oak is not used in this wine in order to keep the fruitiness of it. Classic Reserve Carmenere has a strong varietal character, with ripe fruity aromas of blackberries and herbs. White pepper and a hint of coffee add complexity to the nose. In the palate is bright and juicy, with a silky texture and subtle oak notes at the finish.
